The journey to the end of the world

Day 250
Dear diary. It's been another while since I last wrote to you. I'm on my way to find the edge of desolation, if there is such a thing. The plane we saw came from the west, which is why I'm heading there right now in the hopes of finding something else than the ocean. If I just keep heading west, I'll either find the rest of the world or end up at the colony again. But that plane must've come from somewhere.

The motorcycle John gave me ran out of fuel a long time ago and ever since then I've been walking again. Of course I came past a few fuel stations, but they were pretty much always overrun with infected and LI and the few ones that weren't had long run dry. Or maybe they just don't work too well without power.

Day 255
Dear diary, I thought I knew loneliness. I really did. But when night sets in and darkness embraces all that is good and bad in this world, I hear the noises and realize that I knew nothing of loneliness. I wish I had taken up Sam's offer to come with me, but they need him back at the colony. I remember Wendy telling me to be careful and I promised her that I'd come back. But who am I kidding, I'm not coming back. This is a suicide mission and everyone knew it. Yet I had to go. Because if I didn't, someone else would have had to go and I was the one with the highest success chances for this mission to find the end of this world. I wonder if Christopher Columbus also felt this way when he set out to find a new route to India and discovered America in the process. Only that I'm still at the 'travel the vast ocean'-bit and nowhere near 'discovering America'. I wonder if there even is an 'America' to discover. But then again, old Christopher didn't know that either and he still did what he thought was right. And what other choice do we have, really?

Day 260
Hello diary, it's me again. Right, who else would it be. Either way, I've went from desolation to destruction. This city must have been some sort of battleground, there's exploded buildings, cars and countless corpses littering the streets. You know how I the smell of decay makes my mouth water? Well, I found out that there are two smells of decay. The one of Zombies and the smell of corpses. The corpses one isn't all that pleasant, especially after they've been left to dry in the streets for a few months. It's getting colder each day, so I guess winter is approaching. Fortunately there's still enough to eat wandering around. Though I guess that means that whoever caused all this mayhem lost their battle. But at least there was a fight. Still no sign of survivors though, no flags hoisted on rooftops, no lights flickering in the night. And of course, still no sign of the edge.

Day 270
Hey diary. Sorry, still no signs of life anywhere nearby. I'm currently walking down some sort of highway, which is, like all the others, littered with cars. There are a few barricades, testament to the struggle of humanity against the Zombies, but still no survivors. But something is strange...there are far less corpses lying around. It's also been a whole while since I've seen any LI. This makes me wonder, where the LI actually come from. I figured they were some sort of infected dog, but somehow it feels like there's more to them than I initially thought. I've been doing a lot of thinking, you see? Where the Zombies might have come from, where the LI came from and what the voices I've been hearing at the colony were all about. Oh yeah, I haven't been hearing any for weeks now, so I guess that's a good sign that I'm not going completely crazy yet.

Day 293
Hello diary. The sun is setting and I'm sitting on top of a water tower or something, overlooking the area. The motorcycle I found parked in the last city really took me ahead a good bit. It was completely ready for travel, but apparently the poor sap I took the keys from didn't quite make it to wherever he wanted to go. His loss, my gain, really. Either way, there's something on the horizon I can't quite make out yet. Though either it's my tired mind playing tricks on me or there's a really big wall over there. I'm definitely going to check it out later.

Day 294
12:00
Hi diary! It is a wall! A really tall one too, much taller than the one they built in Berlin. In fact it seems like it might be as tall as the great wall in China! I've finally found it. I found the end of the new world. And behind it must be the old world. I mean, they had the time to build this really tall wall, they can't all be dead behind it, am I right?

18:00
Hey diary, it's me again. They really built this wall to last. Plus, there's a minefield in front of it, kinda reducing my meals to pieces. But so far I haven't found a single gate or watchtower or anything of note. I wonder if there even is one.

Day 295
I've finally found a gatehouse with a two watchtowers attached to them. They seem to have built a moat or something in front of it with a drawbridge and everything. Obviously the drawbridge is up, but I think I saw people on the gatehouses. I'm a little nervous about approaching them, but I didn't come this far to turn around without getting help.
Dear diary, this may well be my last entry, because, as a matter of fact, I am infected. And I'm pretty sure that they didn't survive by leaving any infected close to their wall alive. I may need to get a little creative here, so they won't put a bullet into my head straight away.

Day 296
I think I figured out something. From a nearby truck, I acquired a radio. In another car, I found some blankets. Now I just need an elevated area to post my message at. Something they can see without immediately seeing me. Wish me luck, dear diary.
Seems like Azzy is taking the journey through the wild better than I would. But then again, he's gone through far worse shit already. And he's making valid points here. If we wanted to survive a Zombie outbreak, we wouldn't have the luxury of mercy. Everyone who might be infected would needed to be quarantined separately and shot on the first symptoms. And, to be absolutely sure that not a single infected one makes it into the 'healthy world'...well, there really is only one way to make sure.
